Who asks for what
| Who | What they usually want to see |
|---|---|
| Landlord | Garage liability with additional insured, property on improvements, workers' compensation |
| Fleet and dealer accounts | Garage liability and garagekeepers at stated limits, often with a certificate per account |
| Lender or lessor | Property with the lender as loss payee on lifts and equipment |
| Municipality | Pollution liability for fluids where permits require it |
| Customers | Confidence their car is covered on your lot — the garagekeepers form answers it |
How to check what you already have
- Garage policy declarations. Liability limit, garagekeepers limit per location, the garagekeepers form, and the vehicles and drivers scheduled.
- Property. Lifts, booths and equipment scheduled; business income present; the building if you own it.
- Workers' compensation. All technicians and detailers on the estimate, with the right class.
- Auto. Service and tow vehicles listed; dealer plates covered.
What usually goes wrong
- Garagekeepers sized for an average day, not the busiest one.
- Legal liability garagekeepers when customers expect their car covered regardless of fault.
- Equipment leased but not insured by anyone.
- Technicians on a 1099 who are employees to the state and the auditor.
Renewal timing
Count vehicles on the lot before renewal, update the equipment list, and compare sixty days out with the current driver list and sales mix.
