- 01Bring the policy inScan or forward it. The wallet reads it and checks whether the carrier accepts a servicing switch and whether CoverMatch is appointed with that carrier in your state.
- 02Sign one letterIf the policy is eligible, you see a plain-language explanation and a letter addressed to the carrier. Sign it on your phone; nothing else changes.
- 03We send it; you watch the trackerCoverMatch sends the signed letter to the carrier and tracks it: Signed → Sent to carrier → Carrier review → Done. The carrier's waiting period is shown up front.
Why this exists
Most owners who are unhappy with their insurance are not unhappy with the carrier. They are unhappy with the servicing: certificates take days, changes take calls, renewals arrive as a surprise. A broker-of-record switch fixes the servicing without touching the coverage.
What changes and what does not
| Stays exactly the same | Changes |
|---|---|
| Carrier | Who handles certificates, changes and renewal shopping |
| Policy number, limits, deductibles, endorsements | Who the carrier sends notices and commission to |
| Price and billing plan | Where your documents live (your wallet) |
| Claims process and claim history | Nothing else |
What the letter says
The letter tells the carrier that you have appointed CoverMatch's agency as the agent of record for the listed policy, effective on the date the carrier processes it; the letter itself carries the agency's legal name. Some carriers require their own form (an ACORD 36) instead of a letter; the wallet generates whichever the carrier accepts and shows you before you sign.
Timing
Carriers process broker-of-record changes on their own schedules, typically within a set number of business days; the tracker shows the waiting period for your carrier before you sign. Nothing lapses during the wait: the policy is in force throughout, and the current agent remains responsible until the carrier confirms the change.
When a switch is not the right tool
If the carrier is a direct writer, if the policy is about to expire, or if you want different coverage, a re-quote serves you better than a switch. The wallet tells you which path applies to each policy and never offers a switch where it cannot be completed.
The plain-language disclosure you will see
Switching servicing to CoverMatch keeps your carrier, your policy and your coverage exactly as they are. It changes who services the policy and who the carrier pays. It is not a new policy and it does not promise savings.
